Vargas Sizzles -- Smokes Express for 5 Hits Tuesday, August 28th, 2018 Today at Smith's Ballpark, Ildemaro Vargas put on an impressive display. The Salt Lake Bees third baseman tagged Round Rock pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on the spree and lost the game to the Round Rock Express by the score of 10-9. "The loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it," Vargas said. "5-for-6 ain't bad in any league." Despite the terrific performance, the Bees manager was unwilling to offer his third baseman much praise, saying he holds his "whole roster" accountable for losses. "Ildemaro told me 'Coach, I had 5 hits' and I said 'Well that's great, but it looks like we needed one more from you,'" manager said. Ildemaro Vargas singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and singled in the 8th. Currently Vargas has 16 home runs and a .320 batting average. |
