No Easy Feat: Pitcher Wins NC Most Valuable Player Award Tuesday, October 16th, 2018
For fans of the Hartford Yard Goats, there was certainly no doubting the value of Michael Kopech this season.
Now the 22-year-old pitcher has an award to show just how valuable he was, as he's been named the 2018 National Conference Most Valuable Player Award winner.
His remarkable campaign saw him put up a 15-2 record. In 32 starts he piled up 181.2 innings, had 192 strikeouts with 64 walks and a 1.93 ERA. Kopech held opposing hitters to a .172 batting average and compiled a 5.3 WAR.
He received 16 first place votes out of a possible 30. Cody Asche of the Biloxi Shuckers finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Rene Rivera of the Biloxi Shuckers finished third with 7 first place votes.
