5-for-6 Day for Whitley Monday, July 9th, 2018 All game long, Tennessee's Garrett Whitley was rattling the walls at Hammons Field and banging out base hits against the Springfield Cardinals. When the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a 5-hit day and the Smokies had a 30-2 victory. Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 21-year-old left fielder said, "Get 5 hits, win a ballgame, it's nice. I could get used to this." Garrett Whitley doubled in the 1st, walked in a run in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, walked in the 7th, hit a two-run single in the 7th and singled in the 9th. So far this season Whitley is batting .283 with 6 home runs, 59 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has 87 hits in 307 at-bats, 39 walks and a .373 OBP. Whitley has played in 79 games. |
