Orioles Score Late, Top Yankees, 7-6
|
Baltimore beat New York at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, escaping with a 7-6 win. The win in large part was due to first baseman Joey Votto, who earned player of the game honors. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Baltimore reliever Tyler Bashlor picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Felipe Vazquez was collared with the loss. At 26-23, the Orioles are currently third in the American League East Division.
Making an impact for the home team was Nomar Mazara. In the bottom of the eighth, the 24-year old left fielder had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. That made the score 7-6, Orioles.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Mazara said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
