Athletics Stumble, Lose to Indians
|
The Cleveland Indians defeated the Oakland Athletics, 8-3. Earning player of the game honors was second baseman Jose Ramirez, who went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs. Vince Velasquez got the win, improving to 3-4. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 8 and walking 1. Cleveland leads the American League Central Division by 6 games.
Stephen Vogt had a big 2-run single for the Indians in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Cleveland leading 4-3 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Blake Parker and stroked the single to right. It was his 34th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Indians ahead, 6-3.
"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said Vogt. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."
