Athletics Win at Chicago, 7-1
|
Oakland and Chicago met at Guaranteed Rate Field in front of a lively crowd.
The Oakland Athletics beat the Chicago White Sox, 7-1, at Guaranteed Rate Field. Oakland right fielder Mark Canha earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Jordan Montgomery got the win, improving to 9-9. He held the White Sox to no earned runs on 4 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 3.
Shin-Soo Choo had a big solo home run for the Athletics in the top of the second inning. With Oakland leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a slider from Nathan Eovaldi and stroked the home run to right-center. It was his 6th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 2-0.
Choo told a Oakland Daily News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
The Athletics sit in third place in the American League West Division with a record of 55-62.
