Cardinals Prevail, 5-4, Over Pittsburgh
|
Robinson Chirinos did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Pittsburgh Pirates from losing, 5-4, to the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Chirinos went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner was Jesse Hahn, who threw 77 pitches over 5 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 3 hits. Zack Littell, credited with the save, is now 2 for 8 in save opportunities.
Matt Olson played a key role in the win for the Cardinals. The first baseman punched a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. For the game, Olson was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Pittsburgh manager Corey Wehr.
With the victory, the Cardinals record now stands at 46-70.
