Red Sox Turn Back Cleveland, 2-1
|
Boston starter Edinson Volquez pitched effectively against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. The right-hander led his team to a 2-1 win. Volquez, now 3-0, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. The 4th-place Red Sox raised their record to 61-62.
It could have been a different outcome for Boston, had it not been for Victor Robles, the 22-year old center fielder . Robles contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to put Boston up, 2-1.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Robles said.
