Carpenter slugs 2 home runs, Indians Move to 76-47
|
Cleveland and New York duked it out at Yankee Stadium and the Indians came out victorious.
The Cleveland Indians relied on the hitting of first baseman Matt Carpenter to stop the New York Yankees, 5-2. For the game, Carpenter slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Collin McHugh picked up the win, improving his season record to 8-4. He struck out 5 in 6 innings.
It could have been a different outcome for Cleveland, had it not been for Marcus Semien, the 28-year old shortstop . Semien contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Cleveland up, 3-2.
"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Carpenter told the Cleveland Daily News.
The first-place Indians, at 76-47, now lead their division by 10½ games.
