Palka Helps Giants Beat Athletics
|
The San Francisco Giants beat the Oakland Athletics, 7-3, at Oakland Coliseum. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder Daniel Palka, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Anthony DeSclafani picked up the win, improving his season record to 7-11. He struck out 5 in 6 innings. San Francisco is 60-69 and Oakland, with the loss, 59-70.
It could have been a different outcome for San Francisco, had it not been for Jose Iglesias, the 29-year old shortstop . Iglesias contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the second inning to put San Francisco up, 2-0.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said San Francisco manager James Friederichs.
