Miami center fielder Max Kepler was instrumental in his team's 8-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kepler, who leads the NL in doubles with 41, went 2-3 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Marlins. Sean Newcomb got credit for the win, improving to 9-10. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 6 innings. Blake Treinen converted his 39th save in 39 tries.

Miami relied on the hitting of C.J. Cron to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Marlins on top, 2-0. For the game, Cron had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"The vibe's good," said Miami manager Pat Padula. "We've got to keep it going."

Miami has now won 8 straight.
