|
Washington right-hander Zack Wheeler made an effective start against the St. Louis Cardinals at Nationals Park, leading his team to a 5-4 win. Wheeler went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 6-4. David Robertson notched his 12th save in 13 chances.
Tyler Flowers aided the Washington cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the catcher went 2-4 with 2 singles.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Flowers.
At 83-57, the Nationals have a slim two-game lead in the National League East Division.
