Los Angeles starter Carlos Martinez pitched effectively against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. The right-hander led his team to a 6-1 win. The Angels bumped their record to 87-67 with this latest triumph.

Los Angeles used the timely hitting of Nick Markakis to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Angels on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It's a mindset," said Martinez. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
