The Seattle Mariners beat the Houston Astros, 9-1, at Safeco Field. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Matt Kemp, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Jose Berrios got the win, improving to 12-12. He held the Astros to no earned runs on 3 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Jake Arrieta got the save, his 2nd in 2 chances.

In the bottom of the first, with Seattle leading 2-0, first baseman Rowdy Tellez hit a 2-run double. The hit came off Daniel Mengden and put the Mariners ahead, 4-0.

"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Seattle manager Jeff Clement.

The 4th-place Mariners have won 4 straight games.
