Dodgers Come Up Short at San Diego
San Diego withstood an impressive performance by Los Angeles second baseman Jonathan Schoop to defeat the Dodgers, 7-6, at Petco Park. Schoop went 3 for 5 with 3 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Marcus Stroman earned the win to go to 5-3. He allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. A.J. Minter was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 42 of 46 save opportunities.

One significant plate appearance for San Diego came with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Padres catcher Yadier Molina hit a sacrifice fly, which helped San Diego go on to win.

"Other than the game," said Molina, "we haven't won anything yet."

The first-place Padres have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
