Orioles Shut Out Red Sox
|
In a tight game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox, pitcher Drew Smyly was terrific on the mound. The Baltimore left-hander was named the player of the game in Baltimore's 3-0 win. Smyly, the winner, moves to 13-8. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 9 and giving up 3 walks. The first-place Orioles, at 91-70, now lead their division by 2½ games.
It could have been a different outcome for Baltimore, had it not been for Andrew McCutchen, the 2013 Most Valuable Player Award winner . McCutchen contributed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put Baltimore up, 2-0.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Baltimore manager Eric S said.
