Pittsburgh played host to Cincinnati at the friendly confines of PNC Park.
The Cincinnati Reds went down to defeat to Steven Matz and his Pittsburgh teammates. The final score was 6-2 in favor of the Pirates. Matz, now 8-8, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs.
The Pirates got an important contribution from third baseman Jake Lamb, who in the bottom of the fourth stroked a 1-0 slider into right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 21st double of the season and put the Pirates ahead, 2-1.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Pittsburgh manager Corey Wehr.
Pittsburgh is now 69-93.
