Phillies Score Late to Upend Nationals, 9-6
|
The Washington Nationals got a superb performance from left fielder Andrew Benintendi, but the Philadelphia Phillies still won the game, 9-6. Benintendi was named the player of the game despite the loss. He went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Philadelphia reliever Alex Claudio picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jeremy Jeffress shouldered the loss. The Phillies, now 4-0, have played some good baseball in the early going.
The Phillies got a big at-bat from left fielder David Peralta. For the game, Peralta was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Philadelphia a 8-6 lead.
"It's good to win," Peralta told the Philadelphia Today. "I like to have fun doing it."
