Late Rally by Royals Secures Win
|
The Kansas City Royals picked up a win at Kauffman Stadium, knocking off the Los Angeles Angels, 5-3. On the mound for Kansas City was right-hander Aaron Nola, who played a pivotal role in the win. Kansas City reliever Richard Bleier was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Luis Avilan took the loss for Los Angeles. Arodys Vizcaino earned the save for Kansas City, his 8th of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Dansby Swanson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Los Angeles pitcher Hansel Robles, he hit a 0-2 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Kansas City on top, 4-3.
"The team always comes first, so pulling out the win on a day like today is the most important thing," Nola told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
Kansas City is now 14-13.
