Marlins Solve Phillies, 6-5
|
The Miami Marlins knocked off the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-5, at Citizens Bank Park. Francisco Lindor, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Miami won. The shortstop went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Blaine Hardy was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Blake Treinen got the save, his 46th in 46 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Miami, had it not been for Javier Baez, the 26-year old second baseman . Baez contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put Miami up, 6-4.
"Like I've always said, I'm the straw that stirs the drink," Baez said (again).
The first-place Marlins have a one-game lead in their division.
