Home Loss Shrinks Nationals' Series Lead to 3-2
|
At 37, Adam Wainwright knows he may not have many playoff appearances left, so he was determined to make it memorable. Mission accomplished.
The Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball to help his club get past the Washington Nationals, 2-1, in Game 5 of the League Championship Series at Nationals Park today. Wainwright took player of the game honors for his performance. With the win, Milwaukee now trails Washington 2-3 in the best-of-7 series.
Addison Russell swatted a run-scoring double for Milwaukee in the top of the seventh. The shortstop went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and batted in 2.
"I like to lead by example," said Wainwright. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
Game 6 is set to be played Sunday. The scheduled starters for the game are Nathan Karns for the Washington Nationals and Collin McHugh for the the Milwaukee Brewers.
