Yankees Drop Mariners with Late Score
|
The New York Yankees topped the Seattle Mariners, 3-1, in American League action at Yankee Stadium. The player of the game was New York pitcher and Lakeland, Florida native Ryan Yarbrough. Shane Greene, credited with the win, is now 3-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. The Yankees improved to 17-19.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Tony Kemp came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Seattle pitcher John Brebbia, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 2-1.
Afterward, Yankees manager Jeremiah Coggins was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
