Carpenter, Indians Come Up Short in Bid for Road Win; Padres Take 1-0 Series Lead
|
When the games really matter, the San Diego Padres put on their best show, beating the Cleveland Indians by a final score of 7-5 today. Matt Carpenter earned player of the game honors, as he hit 2 home runs. San Diego now leads Cleveland 1-0 in the best-of-7 affair.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Johan Camargo came to bat in the bottom of the 17th. Facing Cleveland pitcher Simon Castro, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a 2-run home run. It was a game-changer, putting San Diego on top, 7-5.
"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Camargo said.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow in San Diego. The scheduled starters for the game are Collin McHugh for the Cleveland Indians and German Marquez for the the San Diego Padres.
