Phillies Subdue Kansas City, 4-2
|
The Phillies had to overcome a good performance from Kansas City pitcher Chris Sale to claim a 4-2 win at Kauffman Stadium. Sale went 6 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Kenley Jansen earned the save for Philadelphia, his 14th of the year. The first-place Phillies have won 6 straight.
Philadelphia used the timely hitting of Leonys Martin to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Phillies on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Martin, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
