Orioles Win Another One
|
In a high-scoring game between Baltimore and Oakland, catcher A.J. Ellis was a difference-maker. The 38-year-old earned player of the game honors in the 9-8 Baltimore win. He went 4-4 with 4 singles and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times. Baltimore reliever Tim Peterson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-3. Blake Parker absorbed the loss. Joe Jimenez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 5 of 7 save opportunities.
The Orioles got an important contribution from first baseman Joey Votto, who in the top of the sixth hit a full count fastball into left for a 2-run double. It was his 17th double of the season and put the Orioles ahead, 8-6.
"We're in a funk and we need to shake ourselves out of it," said Oakland manager Tim Scholl.
The 4th-place Athletics have dropped 11 straight games.
