Big Day by Dozier Ignites Mariners Win
|
The Seattle Mariners beat the Houston Astros, 8-0, at Minute Maid Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of second baseman Brian Dozier, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Gerrit Cole, the winner, improved to 6-5. He held the Astros to no earned runs on 4 hits over 8.1 innings, while striking out 9 and walking 0. Seattle is now 36-50, Houston 30-53.
It could have been a different outcome for Seattle, had it not been for Manny Machado, the two-time Great Glove Award winner . Machado contributed a solo home run in the top of the first inning to put Seattle up, 2-0.
"We'll keep our chins up and get ready for the next game," said losing manager Jim Reid.
