Cardinals Fall Short at Cincinnati
|
The Cincinnati Reds did just enough to secure a 6-5 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Blake Snell, who captured player of the game honors. The Reds raised their record to 46-49.
The Cardinals had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Reds going into the bottom of the 13th inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old third baseman Chad Pinder came to the plate. Pinder hit a run-scoring single on a 1-1 changeup from St. Louis hurler Fernando Rodney. It was Pinder's 53rd hit of the year.
"Blake was throwing strikes, locating well," said Cincinnati manager Brad S.
