Reds Humble Pirates, 17-3
|
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 17-3, at Great American Ball Park. The Reds got a fine performance from second baseman Robinson Cano, who captured player of the game honors. He hit 2 home runs, while scoring 4 times and driving in 5. Pittsburgh has now lost 6 in a row.
Trea Turner took Steven Matz deep with two out in the bottom of the second. On a 0-1 curveball, Turner drilled a 2-run home run to left. It was his 20th home run of the season and put Cincinnati on top, 5-3.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Cano told the Cincinnati Daily. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
