Multi-HR Day for Alonso as Nationals Overpower Cardinals, 6-4
|
Nationals first baseman Yonder Alonso put his stamp on his team's 6-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Alonso was 2-5 with 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for Washington in the contest. Brandon Woodruff picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-4. He struck out 6 in 6 innings. Jeremy Jeffress notched his 30th save in 35 chances.
Alonso had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 0-1 sinker from Erick Fedde, he banged a grand slam home run to right, giving the Nationals a 6-3 lead. It was the 26th home run of the year for Alonso.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Alonso. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
At 80-71, the Nationals are currently 4th in the National League East Division.
