Marlins Need Extra Frames to Get Past Diamondbacks
|
The Marlins had to overcome a good performance from Arizona pitcher Julio Teheran to claim a 3-1 win at Chase Field. Teheran went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Miami reliever Blake Treinen was credited with the win, to go to 5-3. Dan Jennings took the loss for Arizona. The Marlins bumped their record to 89-63 with this latest triumph.
An important at-bat for the Marlins came in the top of the tenth, when shortstop Francisco Lindor stroked a 2-run home run. That made the score 3-1 in favor of Miami. For the day, Lindor was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2.
During his postgame press conference, Marlins manager Pat Padula told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
