Pirates Come Up Short at Milwaukee
|
Milwaukee starter Lance McCullers Jr. pitched effectively against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Miller Park. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. McCullers Jr. got the win, improving to 9-1. He allowed 3 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. McCullers Jr. allowed 1 earned run. Andrew Miller notched his 25th save in 27 chances.
Addison Russell had a big run-scoring single for the Brewers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Milwaukee leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from Steven Matz and stroked the single to right. It was his 130th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Brewers ahead, 3-1.
"It was a good effort all around," said McCullers Jr..
The first-place Brewers, at 99-57, now lead their division by 15 games.
