Nationals Roll Over Phillies, 9-2
|
The Washington Nationals knocked off the Philadelphia Phillies, 9-2, at Nationals Park. Yulieski Gurriel, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Washington won. The third baseman was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Washington reliever Nathan Karns picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-1. Aaron Blair was collared with the loss. The Phillies, at 90-68, have lost 5 straight games.
The Nationals got a big at-bat from center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr.. For the game, Bradley Jr. was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 15th home run of the season gave Washington a 3-0 lead.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Washington skipper Maurice Hamilton.
