Giants Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
The San Francisco Giants stymied the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-2, at Dodger Stadium. Tyler Naquin, who had a good day at the plate, was named player of the game. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for San Francisco. Anthony DeSclafani got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 0. Diego Castillo closed it out for his 1st save.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the top of the seventh inning. That's when first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who finished 2nd in the NL in home runs with 32 in 2014, got hit by a pitch. The Giants went on to win.
After the game, San Francisco manager Jesse Vansickle applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The Giants, with only their 1st win in 5 games, have not had much to write home about in 2019.
