Phillies Solve Nationals, 6-3
|
The Washington Nationals got a superb performance from right fielder Jose Pirela, but the Philadelphia Phillies still won the game, 6-3. Pirela was named the player of the game despite the loss. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Philadelphia, now 6-3, has gotten their season off to a good start.
The Phillies got a big at-bat from right fielder Giancarlo Stanton. For the game, Stanton went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Philadelphia a 6-2 lead.
In postgame comments to the Philadelphia Today, Stanton said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
