Athletics Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Blue Jays
|
The Oakland Athletics topped the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 8-6, with the largest share of the credit going to third baseman Eduardo Escobar. Escobar went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs for the Athletics. Oakland reliever Jerry Vasto picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Carson Smith absorbed the loss. Sean Doolittle recorded the save for Oakland, his 7th of the season.
Oakland used the timely hitting of Allen Cordoba to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Athletics on top, 8-6. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Cordoba.
The Blue Jays drop to 13-15 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2019 season.
