Free-for-All Costs Suarez and Smith 5-Game Suspensions
Saturday, September 7th, 2019
Eugenio Suarez of the Milwaukee Brewers was not happy with Drew Smith, and his frustration showed when he went after the Chicago player during yesterday's game at Miller Park. Both benches cleared as they rushed to the aid of their teammates. Order was soon restored as Suarez and Smith were pulled away from each other. They were ejected from the game.
Both players were suspended 5 games by the league office as a result of their tussle.
"It's something that happens in baseball every once in a while," Suarez commented later. "We get frustrated with another player and sometimes things go too far. We'll both take our suspensions and then come back ready to play. I got no hard feelings."
So far this year, Suarez is batting .280 with 41 home runs and 94 RBIs.
This year his stats show Smith has no saves in 37 relief appearances with a 2-2 record and 1.97 ERA.
