| Cardinals Win Thriller, 3-2 | Pittsburgh pitcher Tyson Ross gave the Cardinals all they could handle, but in the end, St. Louis left Busch Stadium with a 3-2 win. Ross allowed 1 earned run on 4 hits over 7.2 innings. St. Louis reliever Fernando Rodney was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Fernando Romero took the loss. Their 23-32 record puts the Cardinals 4th in the National League Central Division.
St. Louis won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With one out and Fernando Romero on the mound for Pittsburgh, right fielder Brett Phillips hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Cardinals fans to their feet.
"This wasn't a good win," said Phillips. "It was a great win."
