Prado Slugs Rockies to 17-9 Win
|
Getting a good performance from second baseman Martin Prado, the Colorado Rockies defeated the Seattle Mariners, 17-9. Prado was 4 for 4 with 2 home runs, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 8 for the Rockies. Aaron Sanchez was the winner. Over 5 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 1 strikeout. Even with the win, the Rockies have a dismal 30-58 record.
Prado contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Colorado in the top of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Prado took a fastball from Daniel Gossett and stroked the home run to left. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Rockies to leap in front, 2-1.
Rockies manager Rex Shuck wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
