Yankees Need Extra Frames to Get Past White Sox
|
Chicago center fielder Charlie Blackmon was sensational. He was 2-4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. New York beat the White Sox, 5-4. Blackmon was named the player of the game despite the loss. The win was credited to Justin Masterson in relief. His record improves to 7-2. Jared Miller took the loss. Wade Davis was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 21 save opportunities.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 2nd and two out in the top of the eighth inning. That's when second baseman Devon Travis reached on an error by the 3B. The Yankees went on to win.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Travis. "And not try to do too much."
The Yankees bumped their record to 61-53 with this latest triumph.
