Nationals Win at New York, 9-4
|
New York got a terrific performance from center fielder Ian Happ, but it wasn't enough to beat the Washington Nationals. Washington won the Citi Field contest, 9-4. Happ was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Ivan Nova got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The Nationals bumped their record to 77-52 with this latest triumph.
Aaron Hicks chipped in for Washington with a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Hicks said after the game.
