Blue Jays Solve Indians, 4-3
|
The Cleveland Indians got a superb performance from shortstop Marcus Semien, but the Toronto Blue Jays still won the game, 4-3. Semien was named the player of the game despite the loss. He was 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Dellin Betances earned his 14th save in 18 chances. Toronto is now 89-51, 8½ games up in the American League East Division.
The Blue Jays beat the Indians with some clutch hitting. The home run by Carlos Gonzalez in the bottom of the first is a good example. With two down, Gonzalez gave his team the lead, 3-0, when he came through with the big hit.
"I like our moxie," said Blue Jays manager Ryan Hicks.
