Blue Jays Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Orioles
|
Toronto beat Baltimore at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, eking out a 6-5 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Michael Fulmer, who earned player of the game honors. Toronto reliever Jake Diekman picked up the win to move to 5-2. Carlos Estevez suffered the loss. Dellin Betances got the save, his 19th in 23 chances.
The Blue Jays got a big at-bat from second baseman Dixon Machado. For the game, Machado was 2 for 5 with 2 singles. In the top of the eighth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 27th hit of the season gave Toronto a 3-2 lead.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Machado told the Toronto Citizen. "It's as simple as that."
Toronto is now 96-55, 10 games up in the American League East Division.
