Athletics Subdue Minnesota, 5-4
|
The Minnesota Twins got a superb performance from left fielder Howie Kendrick. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Oakland. The Athletics won the game, 5-4. In spite of the loss, Kendrick was named the player of the game. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Sean Doolittle was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 15 save opportunities. The Athletics saw their win-loss record go to 61-94. At the same time, the Twins fell to 71-84.
Paul Goldschmidt drove in one run for Oakland. The fan favorite had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jason Hammel. It was his 88th RBI of the season.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Minnesota manager Al Wehr.
