Pirates Bang Out 7-1 Win Versus Chicago
|
Pittsburgh and Chicago put this game in the books despite some rain.
Pittsburgh Pirates starter Patrick Weigel was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Chicago Cubs, 7-1. Weigel, now 6-11, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 2, walking 4, and allowing 1 earned run.
It could have been a different outcome for Pittsburgh, had it not been for Byron Buxton, the slick-fielding center fielder . Buxton contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put Pittsburgh up, 2-0.
Buxton told a Pittsburgh Herald reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
Pittsburgh has 3 straight wins, Chicago 5 straight losses.
