The Red Sox faced a stiff challenge from Tampa Bay pitcher Michael Pineda, but persevered to claim a win at Tropicana Field. The final score was 2-1. Pineda went 8.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Boston reliever Dan Otero picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Michael Pineda was saddled with the loss. Edwin Diaz earned the save, his 2nd.

The Red Sox got a big at-bat from second baseman Yangervis Solarte. For the game, Solarte was 1-4 with a home run. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Boston a 2-1 lead.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Solarte said after the game.

Boston, now 3-0, has gotten their season off to a good start.
