Nationals Lose Despite Benintendi's Valiant Effort
|
Andrew Benintendi had a good game, but he could not keep the Washington Nationals from falling, 11-5, to the New York Mets at Nationals Park. The Washington left fielder hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 in the loss. The Mets are off to a tough start, getting just their 3rd win in 8 games.
Salvador Perez, who is a five-time All-Star, chipped in for New York with a grand slam home run in the top of the third. For the game, the catcher had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 4 runs batted in.
Perez called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
