Giants Edge Past Dodgers, 3-2
|
The Los Angeles Dodgers got a superb performance from pitcher Jeff Samardzija. Still, it wasn't enough to beat San Francisco. The Giants won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Samardzija was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 1-hit ball. Chris Devenski saved it for San Francisco. San Francisco has a record of 13-15.
Had Dustin Pedroia not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Pedroia hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Giants.
Los Angeles manager Joe Bubanj said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
