| Nationals Come Back Late to Top Pirates | The Washington Nationals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-4, at Nationals Park. Washington right fielder Marcell Ozuna earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win was Jeremy Jeffress's in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Keone Kela took the loss for Pittsburgh. The Pirates fall to 9-21 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2018 season.
Had Andrew Benintendi not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Benintendi hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Nationals.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Benintendi.
