Indians Subdue Kansas City, 5-4
|
Behind a solid performance from second baseman Jose Ramirez, the Cleveland Indians defeated the Kansas City Royals, 5-4. Ramirez was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Indians. Cleveland reliever Evan Marshall was credited with the win, to go to 1-1. Phil Hughes took the loss for Kansas City. Ryan Madson picked up the save for Cleveland, his 10th of the year.
Ramirez contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Cleveland in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 4-3, Ramirez took a fastball from Phil Hughes and stroked the home run to left. His 9th home run of the season allowed the Indians to leap in front, 5-4.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Ramirez told the Cleveland Citizen.
Their 15-22 record puts the Indians 4th in the American League Central Division.
