| Indians Come Back Late, Nip Tigers | The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians provided some drama at Comerica Park.
The Detroit Tigers got a sterling performance from pitcher A.J. Cole, but the Indians still prevailed, 4-3. Cole was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs. Ryan Madson earned the save, his 11th, for the Indians.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Detroit pitcher Zach Britton, he hit a 0-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cleveland on top, 4-3.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Ellsbury said.
With the win over Detroit, the Indians improved to 18-23.
